Battle of the Warriors!
Our dojo tournament was today, and since I'm already injured (but feeling better, slowly but surely!), I decided it would probably not be wise to compete. Instead, I helped score and judge the competitors. It was a packed house with so many young karateka showing up to represent their school and themselves.
We had a blast scoring the tiny paw and tiny tiger fitness event. It was a crazy obstacle course that they had to navigate, while trying to keep as many points as they could. These little guys and gals are just so much fun to watch. They just went for broke, no matter what we threw at them.
Junior warrior katas were also fun to score. These young ones change when they walk onto the floor and present to the judges. Their faces become serious, their posture gets taller, their voices get an edge of ferocity. It's incredible to see. A white belt ended up in second place because she showed so much spirit executing the first, most basic kata, and she'd just learned it a week before. But she left everything on the mat in those six short moves.
We won't know which school gets to take home the tournament cup until our Black Belt Gala in June. Based on what I saw, I think Sensei Gabby's Howell warriors might take the cup away from us in Rahway this time. But we'll be back to claim it. No doubt.
